It’s not about sprint finishes or breaking PBs, it about experiencing the landscape and soaking up the atmosphere of such a beautiful place. Get that feel-good high that only comes from doing something like this.
We choose to run this 4 mile loop but that’s not everybody’s bag, it’s an equally lovely walking route with a bit of everything. The first mile and a half is on the quiet Elterwater to Colwith road through woodland, over quaint little bridges and past hidden waterfalls. After that, it’s open fields and more woods on a path which takes you past the ever popular Skelwith Force, before heading back along the river Brathay, stunning Elterwater and Great Langdale Beck.
Hills can be hard, so on this occasion we decided to run past them! There is a couple of small inclines on the first half this route but at a maximum elevation of 361ft it’s nothing you can’t handle!
By the time you half way round this route, you’ll be thanking us. The water edge track that takes you all the way back to Brimstone is an absolute pleasure. Flat, smooth and wide, with some breath-taking views of the Great Langdale Pikes ahead of you … You’re welcome
Life is all about the journey, so stop and admire the view along the way …
On the final stretch before you reach Brimstone, you can start to think about how you’re going to reward your efforts, you deserve that glass of wine or 3 with dinner, that massage in the new spa and that long soak in the tub when you get back to your room. Enjoy!
